Dr Thabat Khatib is an Assistant Professor in the Faculty of Medicine at the Arab American University in Palestine and a neuroscientist specialising in translational neuroscience. She earned her PhD from the University of Aberdeen, UK, followed by postdoctoral research at the University of Aberdeen and the Edmond and Lily Safra Centre for Brain Sciences in Jerusalem. Her research interests include neurodegenerative diseases, retinoid signalling, drug discovery, neural circuitry, evolutionary genetics, stem cells and genome editing. Her work aims to translate an understanding of molecular and cellular mechanisms into new therapeutic and diagnostic strategies. She is a co-inventor on two patents for synthetic retinoids with potential applications in Alzheimer’s disease and related neurodegenerative disorders.
