Dr. Sara Elfarrash, MD, PhD, is a neuroscientist and Associate Professor of Medical Physiology at Fakeeh College for Medical Sciences in Jeddah and at the Faculty of Medicine, Mansoura University in Egypt. Her research focuses on neurodegenerative diseases, particularly Parkinson’s disease and dementia, with an emphasis on how neuroinflammation and metabolic dysfunction contribute to cognitive decline. She investigates emerging therapeutic pathways, including GLP 1 receptor agonists and PDE5 inhibitors, aiming to identify novel targets for early intervention. Dr. Elfarrash is the recipient of multiple international distinctions, including the IBRO Early Career Award, and has secured major research funding in both Egypt and Saudi Arabia. She currently leads the Hevolution Foundation–funded AL SAHA (“الصحة”) Longitudinal Study of Healthy Aging, the first national molecular aging cohort in the Kingdom. Her regional leadership is further reflected in her establishment of the Mansoura Integrated Biobank for Egyptian Parkinson’s and dementia patients, and in her active roles within the International Brain Research Organization (IBRO ARC) and the Movement Disorder Society.
