Said El Shamieh is Professor of Human Genetics at Beirut Arab University and adjunct researcher at the Institut de la Vision (Sorbonne Université). He received his Habilitation à Diriger des Recherches from Sorbonne Université in 2026 for work on the genetics of inherited retinal disorders. He served as Team Leader in an Erasmus+ project that developed online postgraduate programs in Lebanon and Egypt, linking education, policy and clinical care to regional capacity in precision medicine. He has 83 peer-reviewed publications and a patent (WO2013093091), provides genetic testing and counseling to patients with inherited retinal disorders and their families, and holds editorial and peer-review roles.
