Dr Rana Youness
About
Youness has received several awards and recognitions, most notably, L’Oréal UNESCO for Women in Science 2023, the European Association for the Study of the Liver (EASL) Merit award and Travel Grant for 4 consecutive years, European Society For Medical Oncology (ESMO) merit award and travel grant for young investigators for 8 consecutive years, and several mobility grants funded by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD). In 2022, Dr. Youness has been awarded the prestigious State of Incentive Award in Medical Sciences from the Egyptian Ministry of Higher Education and the Academy of Scientific Research in Egypt as an acknowledgment for her innovative research projects and her publication record. She founded the Molecular Genetics Research Team- MGRT at the GUC and then at UH-GAF and finally at GIU. The MGRT focuses on 1) Unravelling the crosstalk between different classes of non-coding RNAs in different solid malignancies such as Breast, Brain and liver cancers 2) Deciphering the gasotransmitters associated signaling pathways in Breast, Brain and liver cancers 3) Evaluating the immunomodulatory anti-cancer potential of novel natural compounds against Breast, Brain and liver cancers. The MGRT is now composed of 6+ PhD students, 35+ Msc. Students, 15+ Pharmaceutical Sciences, Pharmaceutical Engineering and Biotechnology Bachelor students and 10+ Interns. Her group is funded by several national and international grants. MGRT is collaborating with several research groups worldwide in Germany, Greece, France, Italy, Poland, France, Korea, Switzerland, England, KSA, UAE, India and USA. Youness is currently an editor and reviewer in several peer-reviewed Q1 journals related to the Biochemistry, Molecular Biology and Biotechnology fields such as Scientific Reports-Nature, BMC Cancer-Nature, PlosOne, Aging, Carcinogenesis, Frontiers in Oncology, Frontiers in Immunology. Youness has been invited as a guest speaker in more than 30+ international conferences in Europe, MENA region and USA, published and presented her research work in 60+ international conferences in Europe and USA and she has published 60+ paper publications in a high impact peer-reviewed international journal Youness has been an active member of Empowering women in Science communities, she volunteers in several events, conferences, media shows to deliver influential talks for the younger generations of undergraduate students and Msc. and PhD students highlight the importance of empowering women in science.
