Prof. Hilal Lashuel is the Research Development and Innovation Advisor to the Chairperson of Qatar Foundation and Executive Director of RDI. He is the Director of the Laboratory of Chemical Biology of Neurodegeneration and CEO of ND BioSciences SA. Prof. Lashuel earned his B.Sc. in Chemistry from City University of New York and completed his PhD at Texas A&M and the Scripps Research Institute. After postdoctoral work at Harvard Medical School, he joined EPFL as Associate Professor of Neuroscience. His research focuses on understanding protein misfolding in neurodegenerative diseases, with the goal of developing novel diagnostics and therapies. Prof. Lashuel has published over 225 peer-reviewed papers and holds nine patents. His work has been widely funded by agencies such as the Michael J. Fox Foundation and major pharmaceutical companies. In addition to his academic roles, he has served in leadership positions at the Qatar Biomedical Research Institute, the Qatar Genome Project, and the Qatar Biobank. He was also a visiting professor at Stanford University. Prof. Lashuel has received numerous awards, including the Kuwait Prize in Biological Sciences and the Takreem Foundation's Scientific Achievement Award. He was named a Young Global Leader by the World Economic Forum in 2012 and was recognized among the "100 outstanding personalities" by Swiss business magazine L'Hebdo.
