Dr. Hayat Sindi is a pioneering Saudi medical scientist specializing in medical testing and biotechnology. She holds nine patents for innovations in using light and ultrasound for early breast cancer detection. In 1995, she graduated in Pharmacology from King’s College London, becoming the first Gulf woman to earn a PhD in Biotechnology from the University of Cambridge. Dr. Sindi co-founded “Diagnostics For All,” a nonprofit that develops affordable diagnostic tools for impoverished regions. Her team won first place in both Harvard Business School's Business Plan Contest and MIT's $100K Entrepreneurship Competition in 2008. In 2011, she founded the i2 Institute for Imagination and Ingenuity, and in 2012, she was named an Emerging Explorer by National Geographic. In 2014, she received the Clinton Global Citizen Award for her leadership in civil society. Dr. Sindi also serves as a UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador, promoting science education in the Middle East, particularly for girls. In 2017, she was appointed Senior Scientific Advisor to the President of the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB), contributing to the launch of IsDB's $500 million Transform Fund in 2018. Her global impact has earned her numerous accolades, including being named one of BBC’s top 100 Women in 2018 and receiving a prestigious TWAS Medal Lecture in 2019. Dr. Sindi is also the founder of The Institute for Quality (iQ), a global consulting firm, and serves as an honorary Fellow at Newnham College, University of Cambridge.
