Dr. Elias Akoury is an Associate Professor of Chemistry at the Lebanese American University (LAU) and Head of the Biophysical Chemistry Research Group. He holds a PhD in Physical Chemistry from the University of Göttingen/Max Planck Institute for Biophysical Chemistry, Germany, with specialization in NMR spectroscopy, protein biophysics, and drug discovery. His research integrates spectroscopy, computational chemistry, molecular biology, and biophysical approaches to investigate protein folding and misfolding, protein–ligand interactions, and the development of small-molecule therapeutics. His current research particularly focuses on tau protein aggregation, neurodegenerative diseases, and anti-aggregation drug discovery, alongside research on emerging contaminants, microplastics, and toxic metals in food and environmental systems. Dr. Akoury has more than 15 years of international research experience and has published in leading scientific journals. His research has also received support for projects addressing drug discovery in Alzheimer’s disease and environmental contamination in Lebanon.
