Dr. Elbakry graduated from the American University in Cairo with a BS in biology, followed by a masters of science in molecular medicine from University College London, UK. She then obtained her PhD in radiation biology from the Technical University of Darmstadt in Germany. After a short postdoc there, Amira then moved to Boston where she is now a Walter Benjamin postdoctoral fellow at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. Her work focuses on DNA damage and repair and how DNA repair pathways can be exploited for cancer therapy and precision medicine. Amira is passionate about promoting science in Egypt, and is an advocate for women in science.
